01
What is SSB ?
The Services Selection Board (SSB) is an organization that assess and selects candidates for becoming officers in the Indian Armed Forces. Candidates undergo a rigorous 5 day interview process by a Panel of Officers. SSBs assess various attributes related to personality, psychology, intelligence (IQ), reasoning and logic to see if the candidate fits the requirement to become an Armed Forces Officer
02
Is there any method to get exempted from the SSB ?
No. All officer entries (except for the Army Medical Core) have to mandatorily clear the SSB interview to join the defence forces. There is no limit to the number of SSB chances that one can avail, however, there may be restrictions to the number of attempts to the written exams / PABT etc
03
Do I have a choice to select my location of attending the SSB interview ?
No. There are a total of 13 SSB centers all over the country (apart from dedicated Naval and Air Force Selection Boards). You will be alloted a SSB centre as per various parameters and will be asked to report to the center for the interview process. Generally no requests for changing the location are entertained, however the interview can be rescheduled if you have the missed the allocated batch due to any reason.
04
What is the SSB interview process ?
All candidates clearing the written exams/ cut-off marks will be invited to attend the SSB. The SSB interview lasts for 5 days (detailed brochure can be downloaded from this website). Candidates clearing the SSB interview will be required to undergo a detailed medical examination at a designated military hospital. The medical examination will generally take atleast 4 to 5 days for completion. You should ideally cater atleast 10 to 11 days for the complete process. After all this, a merit list will be published for final selection
05
What will be my expenses for the SSB interview ?
The interview, medical examination, boarding, lodging and local transportation is all free of cost. Railfare to-and-fro your home station to place of SSB interview will also be re-reimbursed to you by the SSB
06
What is the PABT ?
The Pilot Aptitude Battery Test is a once in a lifetime test conducted for candidates aspiring to join the flying branches of the Indian Air Force, Indian Army or the Indian Navy. The PABT is conducted during the SSB (for aviation entry batches) and candidates can appear for this test only once in a lifetime. The PABT includes the Instrument Battery Test, a Sensory Motor Apparatus Test (SMAT), and a Control Velocity Test (CVT). More details will be provided during the course
